Royal Caribbean Extends Port Everglades Partnership, Boosting Local Economy and Creating Thousands of Jobs

Royal Caribbean Group, the parent company of three major cruise lines – Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea – has solidified its commitment to Port Everglades with a significant extension of their partnership. The Broward County Board of Commissioners approved an extension of the Passenger Terminal and Berth User Agreement, securing Royal Caribbean’s presence at the port until at least September 30, 2030.

This long-term commitment marks a significant milestone in the 25-year relationship between Royal Caribbean and Port Everglades. The partnership has been instrumental in establishing Port Everglades as a major hub for the cruise industry. Now, with the extended agreement, both parties are looking toward the future, exploring potential facility upgrades at Cruise Terminal 29 to accommodate the newer, larger ships in Royal Caribbean’s growing fleet.

The positive economic impact of this partnership is undeniable. A report by maritime economic consultancy Martin Associates projects that the extended agreement will generate a substantial $581.9 million in annual revenue for the local economy from 2027 to 2030. This revenue surge will be driven by increased cruise activity, with Port Everglades expecting to host 355 vessel calls and welcome over 1.3 million passengers annually.

This increased activity will create a significant number of jobs in the region. The report estimates that the partnership will support 4,095 jobs annually, including 1,829 direct local jobs, 1,221 indirect jobs, and 1,046 induced jobs. These jobs will span various sectors, contributing to the overall economic vitality of the region.

“I thank the County Commissioners for helping us move forward on our commitment to attract and retain customers like Royal Caribbean Group that provide a substantial lift to our local economy,” said Joseph Morris, CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades.

The extended partnership is a clear indication of Royal Caribbean Group’s dedication to Port Everglades as a key hub for its global operations. This commitment not only benefits the cruise line but also the local community, fostering economic development and creating new opportunities for residents. The future looks bright for both Port Everglades and Royal Caribbean Group, as this partnership continues to strengthen and contribute to the prosperity of both entities.
