A royal commentator has criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent tour of Nigeria, calling it a ‘farce’ and a ‘fake royal tour.’
Charlotte Griffiths, Editor at Large for the Mail on Sunday, said that the tour was ‘a fashion show’ and that the couple was ‘cosplaying how to be royal.’ She also criticized Meghan Markle for changing her outfit halfway through an event and for wearing an expensive outfit in a country with widespread poverty.
Griffiths also said that Meghan Markle repeatedly referred to Nigeria as her ‘motherland’ and that she was ‘rude’ during an interaction with a teacher. She accused the couple of being out of touch with the reality of life in Nigeria.
Other royal commentators have also criticized the tour, with Angela Levin calling Meghan Markle ‘awful’ and ‘rude.’
Despite the criticism, the couple’s tour of Nigeria was met with positive reactions from many Nigerians, who welcomed them warmly and praised their efforts to promote women’s leadership and education.
