A prominent royal historian, Hugo Vickers, has predicted that Prince Harry will return to the UK Royal Family on a permanent basis. However, Vickers believes Harry will make this move alone, without his wife Meghan Markle.
During a recent interview, Vickers was asked about the future of Harry and Meghan. He expressed his belief that returning to the UK would be a positive step for the Duke of Sussex, despite his perceived anger. “I think he’ll come home. If he comes home, it will be very nice for him, because he won’t particularly want to. He’s quite angry, I think,” Vickers stated.
When asked specifically if he thought Harry would return to the UK alone, Vickers confidently responded, “Yes, I do.” He highlighted that King Charles III has left the door open for Harry’s return, emphasizing the Duke’s previous happiness in fulfilling his royal duties. “He was doing such a good job before…he looked so happy. Usually, you’re happy when you’re doing your duty, and you’re doing it for other people, and you’re putting things into life,” Vickers explained.
Vickers also reflected on the implications of Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from their royal duties, known as “Megxit.” He expressed regret over the missed opportunity, noting that the late Queen Elizabeth II had offered Harry and Meghan a significant role in the Commonwealth. This responsibility, however, wasn’t enough for the couple, leading to their departure. “It’s a very sad thing. What could have been wonderful didn’t turn out that way,” Vickers lamented.
The term “Megxit” emerged in January 2020 when Prince Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step back as senior members of the Royal Family. They sought to split their time between the UK and North America, gain financial independence, and limit their representation of the monarchy. This decision quickly gained global recognition, sparking widespread discussion across both mainstream and social media. It also inspired numerous online memes and Megxit-themed merchandise.
