The Royal Mail is experiencing delays in certain regions of the United Kingdom due to an issue with its air network. The affected areas include parts of Central and Southern Scotland, London, the South East of England, and Northern Ireland. The postal service is working to minimize the impact on deliveries and aims to resume normal service as soon as possible.
According to a Royal Mail statement, the issue stems from a delayed flight from Edinburgh to Stansted, which resulted in late deliveries for mail posted in certain areas. However, the postal service emphasized that rail and road networks are operating as scheduled and that all mail centers are processing and dispatching letters on time.
Despite the delays, Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for, six days a week. However, in a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In such cases, Royal Mail will rotate deliveries to minimize delays for individual customers.
The postal service also noted that pre-empted delays to Royal Mail services will impact customers over the upcoming Spring bank holiday weekend. Royal Mail will not fulfill any collections or deliveries on Monday, May 27.
Royal Mail is committed to restoring service to the high standard its customers are accustomed to. The postal service is providing targeted support to affected offices to address challenges and resume normal operations as soon as possible.
