Rublev Reaches Toronto Final After Rain Delay, Will Face Popyrin

Andrey Rublev, the fifth-seeded Russian, secured his spot in the Toronto final after a hard-fought victory over Matteo Arnaldi. Rublev, who has already claimed titles in Madrid and Hong Kong this year, triumphed 6-4, 6-2, despite a rain delay early in the second set. The delay, which lasted for 1 hour and 40 minutes, occurred when the score stood at 1-1 in the second set. However, Rublev remained undeterred and eventually emerged victorious. “The wait has been worth it,” said Rublev, expressing his happiness at reaching his first Canadian final. “I’m happy to be in my first Canadian final. I just want to recover, rest well and be ready for tomorrow.” His path to the final included a victory over top-seeded Jannik Sinner on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Alexei Popyrin of Australia secured his place in the final after overcoming American Sebastian Korda in a closely contested match. Popyrin emerged victorious 7-6 (0), 6-3. Earlier in the day, Popyrin had defeated fourth-seeded Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals with a score of 3-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5. Korda, who claimed the Washington title last week, advanced to the semifinals after a hard-fought win over second-seeded Alexander Zverev, winning 7-6 (5), 1-6, 6-4.

The tournament schedule had been disrupted by heavy rain earlier in the week. Remnants of Tropical Storm Debby caused a washout of play on Thursday night and all of Friday, leaving the event behind schedule.
