Rudy Gobert Embraces Darkness Retreats Inspired by Aaron Rodgers

Following a challenging first season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert sought inspiration from Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Inspired by Rodgers’s experience with darkness retreats, Gobert reached out to him and embarked on a four-day retreat at Sky Cave in Oregon. Darkness retreats involve staying in a place devoid of light, allowing individuals to disconnect from external distractions and delve into their inner selves. Gobert found the experience deeply transformative, shedding light on his true values and empowering him to navigate the noise and distractions that often accompany his profession. “When you’re in the dark, it shows the things that are inside of you. If you’re negative, you see negative things. And if you’re positive, you see positive things. So you realize that at the end of the day, you create your own reality,” Gobert reflected. Embracing the lessons learned during his retreat, Gobert experienced a resurgence in his performance with the Timberwolves, helping them secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. His statistics improved across the board, and he played a pivotal role in their Game 1 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs. Contrastingly, Rodgers’s inaugural season with the Jets was cut short after just four plays due to an Achilles injury.
