Russia Blasts US for Meddling in India’s Elections through False Pannun Murder Allegations

Russia has strongly condemned the United States for allegedly meddling in India’s internal affairs and ongoing parliamentary elections by fabricating accusations about a plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova asserted that Washington has not presented any credible evidence implicating Indian citizens in the alleged assassination plot. She denounced the “regular unfounded accusations” against New Delhi as an attempt by the White House to destabilize the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Zakharova criticized the recent report by The Washington Post, which implicated a RAW official in the Pannun assassination plot. She accused the newspaper of employing the term “repressive regime” inappropriately, stating that it is difficult to conceive of a more repressive regime than the United States, both domestically and internationally.

Zakharova criticized the US for its lack of understanding of India’s national mentality and history. She accused Washington of making baseless accusations against not only India but also numerous other nations regarding violations of religious freedoms. She suggested that the unfounded accusations were part of a strategy to unbalance India’s internal political situation and disrupt the ongoing general parliamentary elections.

This incident highlights the ongoing diplomatic tensions between Russia and the United States, as well as Moscow’s support for India in the face of perceived foreign interference. It underscores the importance of responsible reporting and the need to verify information before making public accusations, particularly in sensitive geopolitical contexts
