Antwone Woolfolk, a former Rutgers forward/center transfer, has found a new home at Miami of Ohio. The announcement was made on Tuesday morning by the school. Woolfolk, who has two more years of eligibility remaining, is the fourth Scarlet Knight transfer to find a new destination following Derek Simpson (Saint Joseph’s), Gavin Griffiths (Nebraska), and Antonio Chol (Howard).
Miami of Ohio head coach Travis Steele expressed enthusiasm about adding Woolfolk to the program. He highlighted Woolfolk’s familiarity with the area, having played for former Miami legend Chet Mason at Brush High School in Cleveland. Steele also emphasized Woolfolk’s experience competing against top-tier big men during his time at Rutgers.
A three-star recruit out of Ohio, Woolfolk spent both of his seasons in Piscataway as a backup to starting center Cliff Omoruyi. In 59 career appearances (six starts), he averaged 2.8 points on 56.8% shooting (36.5% on twos, 16.7% on threes, 46% on free throws) and 2.3 rebounds in 9.9 minutes per game.
Woolfolk’s role diminished towards the end of the season, as he did not play in five of the final 12 games and averaged just 6.4 minutes in the seven contests he appeared in during that span. He started six of the first seven games of the season at the four-spot alongside Omoruyi but was relegated to the bench once starting forward Mawot Mag returned from a knee injury in early December.
After averaging 16.4 minutes in the first seven games of the year, Woolfolk surpassed the 16-minute mark in just three of the final 25 games of the year.
