Ryan Gosling Reveals Why ‘The Nice Guys’ Sequel Was Shelved

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Ryan Gosling shed light on the real reason why his 2016 action-comedy, ‘The Nice Guys’, didn’t get a sequel. According to Gosling, the movie’s underwhelming response at the box office played a significant role in the decision. Fatefully, ‘The Nice Guys’ opened against the animated blockbuster, ‘Angry Birds’, which significantly impacted its box office performance.

The Shane Black-directed film, released in 2016, stars Gosling as Holland March, a private investigator hired by Mrs. Glenn to find her niece. On the other side of the coin, Amelia Kuttner hires Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) to put March in his place. However, the two hitmen join forces when their investigation takes a dark turn and everyone involved winds up dead.

Despite positive critical reception, ‘The Nice Guys’ only grossed $11.2 million at the box office, easily eclipsed by ‘Angry Birds” $38 million revenue. The disappointing box office performance, particularly in comparison to the animated film’s success, ultimately led to the decision to shelve plans for a sequel to ‘The Nice Guys’.
