It’s no secret that Brits simply love to order some form of booze when heading off on their holibobs — doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, a cheeky beer, or glass of prosecco is being purchased.
And those travelling with Ryanair can now take their in-flight beverage to the next level, by ordering a cocktail to enjoy during the journey.
The budget airline recently launched a brand new ‘ready to drink’ cocktail menu on its flights, which features seven different drinks, with prices starting from £8 (€9.50).
Some of the options on the menu include a Dublin Lemonade (Jameson Irish Whiskey, Sprite Zero and sparkling water), a Fruit Snack, (Bombay Sapphire Gin, Sprite Zero and Capri-sun), Rose Spritz (rose wine and Sprite Zero) and a Flying Iced Tea (Bombay Sapphire Gin, Absolut Vodka and Coca-Cola).
Jade Kirwan, Ryanair’s head of communications, claimed these ‘delicious’ drinks were the perfect way to ‘kickstart your summer holiday’, adding: ‘Our new cocktail range offers a selection of seven ready to drink cocktails from Flying Iced Tea to French 75 to Rose Spritz and more.’
However, it seems the cocktails may not be quite as ‘ready to drink’ as the airline suggested. People have been left ‘howling’ over one man’s experience ordering the Dublin Lemonade.
Marty Guilfoyle has gone viral after sharing what he was given by Ryanair staff during a recent flight after buying the cocktail.
In a post on Instagram, he shared a look at what the drink was meant to look like, with an image showing a yellow drink in a glass, garnished with a slice of orange on top. But instead of being handed a pre-made cocktail like this, he was given all of the individual ingredients to make the drink for himself.
He captioned the video, writing: ‘Come with me to make a cocktail on board a Ryanair flight. It’s the first time I’ve heard of a Dublin lemonade and tbh, it’s delish.’
In the clip, he added: ‘I thought it might be a pre-made can, I definitely didn’t think I’d have to make it myself.’
Thousands of people liked the video, with many sharing their thoughts in the comments and it’s fair to say people thought it was pretty hilarious.
‘Cocktail MAKING experience is what is was supposed to say hahahahahahaha,’ wrote @foxylaura10, while @djtrolley said: ‘Unreal they’ve no shame at all.’ @beccagillen thought it was ‘iconic’, saying: ‘No this is so iconic and of course we couldn’t expect anything less.’ And @bradheidii replied: ‘JESUS CHRIST I’M HOWLINGG.’
@mister_reginald pointed out: ‘Now serving cocktails onboard and it’s literally just whatever they already had on the plane for the last 20 years slapped together…’
Others went as far as to call the DIY drinks ‘a sin’ and ‘brutal’, but some could see the positives to being served a drink this way, as they thought having to make the drink would help ‘pass time’ during the flight.
Marty wasn’t the only one to experience this after ordering a cocktail, as @cassandra_mcg also shared a similar tale, posting: ‘I thought I was going to get a pre-mixed one and I was handed a bottle of gin, can of Sprite, and a Capri Sun.’
And @hanni_fa_ said: ‘Yes their Long Island [Flying Iced Tea] is a mini vodka and a mini gin and mini bacardi and a mini can of coke … it was so wrong.’
