S Sajana stepped onto the field during the first T20I match between India Women and South Africa Women at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, replacing the injured Richa Ghosh as a concussion substitute. Ghosh sustained the injury after an unfortunate incident while attempting to take a catch.
The incident occurred when Tazmin Brits, the South African batter, top-edged a delivery from Pooja Vastrakar, sending the ball high in the air. Ghosh, diving forward, attempted to catch the ball but it bounced off the edge of her gloves and landed safely. However, the impact of the fall left Ghosh face-down on the ground, requiring assistance to get up.
The Indian team’s physio attended to Ghosh, and she was subsequently guided off the field. Uma Chetry quickly donned her pads and took over as substitute wicket-keeper for Ghosh during the first innings.
This unexpected turn of events brought S Sajana into the game as the concussion substitute for Ghosh, adding another layer of drama to the already exciting encounter between the two cricketing powerhouses.
