A significant incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when the 19168 Sabarmati Express passenger train derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur. According to the Indian Railways, as reported by ANI, the engine of the train collided with an object that had been deliberately placed on the track, causing the derailment of as many as 20 coaches.
Despite the severity of the derailment, there were no reported injuries to passengers or staff. This is a testament to the quick response and safety measures implemented by the railway authorities. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the incident, stating that the object placed on the track caused the engine to derail at 2:35 am. In response to the incident, the Railway DRM (Divisional Railway Manager) of the Jhansi Division, Deepak Kumar, explained to ANI that passengers were transported back to Kanpur using buses and trains. Another train was prepared in Kanpur to ensure passengers could continue their journey to their respective destinations.
