The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, fondly known as the “God of Cricket,” is celebrating his 51st birthday today. Tendulkar embarked on his illustrious cricket journey at the tender age of 16, making his international debut against Pakistan in 1989. His name, bestowed upon him by his father, Ramesh Tendulkar, pays homage to renowned music director Sachin Dev Burman.

Tendulkar’s cricketing prowess is unmatched, with an astounding record of 100 international centuries – 51 in Test matches and 49 in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He holds the record for the highest run-scorer in both ODIs (18,426 runs) and Tests (15,921 runs). Virat Kohli eventually surpassed Tendulkar’s ODI century tally, becoming the first batsman to achieve 50 ODI centuries.

Tendulkar graced the world stage in 664 international matches, amassing an incredible 34,357 runs. He retired from ODI cricket in 2012 and bid farewell to all forms of the game in November 2013, after playing his 200th Test match.

Beyond his cricketing achievements, Tendulkar is also known for his extensive philanthropic work and his passion for music. His autobiography, “Playing It My Way,” became a bestseller and further solidified his status as an icon.
