Sai Sudharsan Returns to Surrey for County Championship

Sai Sudharsan, the promising Indian batter, is set to return to English cricket as he will be playing for Surrey in the ongoing County Championship. The news was confirmed by the club on Tuesday. The 22-year-old had a successful stint with Surrey last season, featuring in two County Championship matches and scoring 116 runs, including a half-century, which contributed to the team’s 22nd championship title.

Sudharsan’s recent performances have been impressive. He had a stellar IPL 2024 season, finishing as the highest run-scorer for Gujarat Titans with 527 runs in 12 matches. This included a century and two half-centuries. He also made his ODI debut against South Africa last year, scoring 127 runs in three matches, featuring two half-centuries. In First-Class cricket, Sudharsan has amassed 1,118 runs in 29 innings.

Sudharsan expressed his excitement about rejoining Surrey. He said, “I’m so excited to represent Surrey again. I loved my time with the group last year and want to do my best to help the club achieve more success. The Kia Oval is an incredible place to play cricket, and I can’t wait to get back out there wearing the Three Feathers.”

Surrey’s Director of Men’s Cricket, Alec Stewart, also welcomed Sudharsan back to the team. He stated, “We saw how good a player Sai is last year, and we’re pleased to welcome him back into the group, where he fitted in perfectly.”

Surrey currently leads the South Division table. Sudharsan’s first match of the season will be against Essex at home on Sunday. His return is anticipated to bolster Surrey’s batting lineup and contribute to their championship campaign.
