Salford Boss Rowley Rejects Hull FC Offer, Dudson Praises Straight-Talking Coach

Salford Red Devils have received a major boost with the news that highly-rated head coach Paul Rowley has rejected a bumper offer from Hull FC and will be staying with the club. The speculation surrounding Rowley’s future had intensified in recent days, but Salford released a statement on Tuesday confirming his decision to remain. Rowley’s decision to stay has been welcomed by Salford fans and players alike, including prop Gil Dudson, who praised the coach’s honest and demanding approach. “He demands an awful lot from you but you know exactly where you stand: there’s no ambiguity with him which is a rarity these days,” said Dudson. Rowley, who brought Dudson back to Salford last month on a season-long loan deal from Warrington, has a strong relationship with the prop, having worked with him during his previous spell at the club. “I got on great with him then,” said Dudson. “He’s got the head job this time which is a little bit different. But what you see and what you get with him is just dead straight.” Salford have picked up five wins from their opening eight Super League games and will be looking to continue their good form when they host Warrington on Saturday. The Wolves have lost just once in their last nine outings and will provide a stern test for Salford. Dudson, who won Super League with Wigan in 2013 before playing in a Grand Final with Salford six years later, is expecting a tough game against his former club. “They are coming in in really massive form. They’re on a high, playing some really good rugby,” said Dudson. “Everyone’s working hard for each other, they have some real speed and class throughout the team. We’re expecting a really tough game.” Dudson, who turns 34 in June, is out of contract at the end of the season but is in no rush to make a decision about his future. “We’re getting to that point now where contracts are getting spoken about,” said Dudson. “I’m pretty open-minded. I’m enjoying my time here and it’s great news Rowls is staying, for the club and me personally. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks. I think there’s still some juice left in my legs but we’ll see.”
