Punjab Kings’ stand-in captain Sam Curran has confirmed that he will continue to lead the team in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan for the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Dhawan, who suffered a shoulder injury prior to the start of the tournament, missed the first seven games of the season and has not featured since match 23 against his former side Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored just 14 runs off 16 balls in a thrilling two-run defeat.
In Dhawan’s absence, Curran has regularly led the Punjab Kings franchise in the league stage and has impressed with both his batting and bowling performances. The all-rounder has scored 185 runs in 11 games and has picked up 13 wickets, showcasing his all-round abilities.
With Punjab Kings currently sitting on eight points from 11 matches and needing to win their remaining two games to have any chance of reaching the playoffs, Curran will be hoping to continue his impressive form and guide his team to victory.
The upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bangalore will be a crucial test for Punjab Kings, and Curran will be determined to lead his team to a positive result. The match will take place at the Dharamsala Cricket Stadium on Thursday, May 18, 2024, and will be a key fixture in the race for the playoffs.
