Moviegoers across the US have been flocking to cinemas to revisit Sam Raimi’s beloved Spider-Man trilogy, which starred Tobey Maguire as the titular web-slinger. The enthusiastic response to Maguire’s return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has reignited calls for the star and director to reunite for a fourth and final installment of Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise, nearly 15 years after it was shelved. In a recent interview with TheWrap, Raimi shared his thoughts on what a potential ‘Spider-Man 4’ would entail after all this time. He emphasized the importance of crafting a compelling journey for Maguire’s character, exploring the obstacles he must overcome to achieve personal growth. Raimi also noted that the villain should serve as a representation of those obstacles, but he hadn’t yet given much thought to a specific antagonist. Raimi’s original plans for ‘Spider-Man 4’ would have seen Maguire’s Spider-Man face off against John Malkovich’s Vulture and Anne Hathaway’s Black Cat. However, the project was ultimately canceled in 2010 after Raimi stepped down, citing concerns about meeting the planned release date while ensuring the film’s quality. More recently, Raimi was reportedly in consideration to direct ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ but Jon Watts ultimately returned to helm the project. Raimi has since confirmed that he doesn’t have any immediate plans to work with Marvel, but he expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility in the future. Currently, Tom Holland’s fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film remains without a director at the helm, leaving the door open for Raimi’s potential involvement. While fans eagerly anticipate the prospect of a ‘Spider-Man 4’ with Raimi and Maguire, the director has cautioned against rushing into production. He believes it’s crucial to avoid overdoing the same formula and ensure that a potential fourth installment brings something new and exciting to the franchise.
