Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu has found herself in the midst of a controversy after promoting hydrogen peroxide inhalation as a treatment for viral infections. The actress, known for her role in Amazon Prime Video’s *Family Man 2*, shared a health advisory on her social media, recommending nebulizing with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and distilled water as an alternative to medication. This post, however, sparked outrage from Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a physician known as “The Liver Doc” on social media.
Dr. Philips criticized Samantha’s suggestion, calling it “unscientific” and accusing her of spreading misinformation to her millions of followers. He argued that inhaling hydrogen peroxide could be dangerous and expressed concern about the actress’s lack of scientific understanding. He even went so far as to suggest that Samantha could face legal consequences for endangering public health.
Samantha responded to the criticism in a detailed Instagram post, acknowledging the doctor’s expertise and intentions but highlighting the harshness of his words, especially the suggestion of jail time. She explained that her post was merely intended to share an alternative approach that had worked for her, particularly for those seeking more affordable options when conventional medicine wasn’t effective.
The Liver Doc, however, remained steadfast in his criticism, accusing Samantha of playing the victim and further endorsing alternative practices. He pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Samantha had promoted questionable health practices and emphasized the importance of celebrities taking responsibility for the influence they wield over their audiences. He urged influencers to unlearn dogmatic views, develop critical thinking skills, and support medical science instead of seeking sympathy for their actions.
The doctor concluded by declaring that he would no longer engage with Samantha’s future posts on health-related topics. Quoting British philosopher John Armstrong, he stated, “You can’t help people that don’t want to be helped.”
