The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE has been the subject of numerous leaks in recent months, but it wasn’t until recently that we got our first look at the upcoming device, thanks to a series of unofficial renders shared by Sudhanshu Ambhore on Twitter. The renders showcase a Galaxy Watch FE that looks strikingly similar to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. It features an aluminum casing, identical button placement, and a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 396 by 396 pixels. The render shows the Watch FE in three eye-catching color options: black, light blue, and pink. As with previous Samsung smartwatches, the straps appear to be easily interchangeable with other compatible bands. These renders give further credence to rumors suggesting that the Watch FE will essentially be a rebranded Watch 4, featuring the same internal components but with a slightly smaller screen. In terms of specifications, we can expect 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Under the hood, we anticipate the Exynos W920 chipset, which was also found in the Galaxy Watch 4, along with a 247mAh battery that is expected to provide around 30 hours of use. The Watch FE is also expected to be water-resistant up to 50 meters.
While the specifications may not be as impressive as those of the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, or the upcoming Watch 7, the Watch FE is still expected to offer solid performance. When we reviewed the Galaxy Watch 4, we were impressed by its two-day battery life and fast, responsive apps. We should see similar performance with the Watch FE, assuming Samsung optimizes the software.
The critical factor that will determine the success or failure of the Galaxy Watch FE will be its price point. With rumors suggesting that the Galaxy Watch 7 will be priced similarly to the Galaxy Watch 6 ($300-$350, depending on the model), the FE will need to come in under the $300 mark to be competitive. For reference, the Galaxy Watch 4, which is still being sold, is currently priced at $199. We speculate that Samsung will discontinue selling the Watch 4 once the Watch FE launches, so we may see the smartwatch priced the same or slightly less.
With Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024 rumored to take place in July, we expect the Galaxy Watch FE to be unveiled alongside the more premium Galaxy Watch 7 lineup. As we approach the event, we can anticipate even more leaks and rumors.
