Samsung is reportedly working on its largest foldable smartphone yet, dubbed the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. This information comes from industry insider Evan Blass, known for his accurate leaks. Blass has clarified that previously rumored names like ‘Galaxy Z Fold Slim’ and ‘Galaxy Z Fold Ultra’ are incorrect. The upcoming device will be an upgraded version of the current flagship, the Z Fold 6.
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is expected to boast a larger screen, taking the title of Samsung’s largest display on a Z device. The external screen will grow from 6.2 inches to 6.5 inches, while the inner screen will expand from 7.6 inches to 8 inches. Despite the increased screen size, the Special Edition will be thinner than its predecessor, measuring 5.6mm compared to the Z Fold 6’s 6.1mm. This slimmer profile is reportedly achieved by removing the S Pen port.
The reduced thickness may suggest a battery with the same or smaller capacity than the Z Fold 6. However, given the ‘Special Edition’ designation, it is unlikely that Samsung would downgrade performance aspects. We can anticipate the Special Edition to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the newest Android version, triple cameras, and hopefully, a larger battery.
Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition exclusively in China and Korea, priced at $1,899, making it more expensive than the Z Fold 6. Android Authority reports that the unveiling is scheduled for September 25th.
