Samsung’s Mysterious New Foldable: Galaxy Z Fold SE or Special Edition?

Samsung has been teasing a new foldable phone for some time, initially rumored to be called the “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim.” Now, whispers from reliable leaker Evan Blass suggest the device might be dubbed the “Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition” or “Galaxy Z Fold SE.” This mysterious phone could be unlike anything Samsung has released before.

One of the most intriguing features rumored for the new phone is a titanium backplate, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This would mark a first for Samsung foldable devices, which have previously used stainless steel or carbon fiber-reinforced plastic for their backplates. However, this switch to titanium could mean that the Special Edition phone might not support the S-Pen, unlike the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The report also mentions a wider screen for the new foldable, with the same aspect ratio as Samsung’s current flagship. This could mean a 6.5-inch cover display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and an 8.7-inch internal display, compared to the 7.6-inch display of the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The timing of this release, especially at the end of the year, has fueled speculation. Samsung has historically released only one Galaxy Z Fold model annually. Furthermore, the new model might launch exclusively in China and South Korea, making a worldwide release less likely.

Samsung’s reasons for releasing this niche foldable remain shrouded in mystery. However, with its unique features like the titanium backplate and wider display, this device could potentially target a specific market segment. Hopefully, Samsung will unveil the new phone soon, providing more details and clarifying its release strategy.
