Among the potential candidates, Craig Berube stands out as a Stanley Cup winner with the St. Louis Blues, known for his demanding style and ability to produce results. David Carle, despite his lack of professional experience, has established a successful program at the University of Denver and could be considered for his innovative approach and growth potential.
Dean Evason, a former Shark, brings extensive experience from his tenure as coach of the Minnesota Wild and the Milwaukee Admirals, demonstrating his ability to work with younger players. Gerard Gallant, who collaborated with Grier during their time with the New York Rangers, has a proven track record of success as a head coach.
Peter Love, currently an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals, earned recognition as the AHL’s Coach of the Year during his time with the Stockton Heat and could be a bold choice for the Sharks. Ryan Nasreddine, with his experience as an assistant coach in the NHL, including under Pete DeBoer in Dallas, could be a suitable candidate for the full-time head coaching role.
Finally, Jay Woodcroft, who briefly overlapped with Grier in San Jose, has held various coaching roles, including a stint as the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers. His experience in a demanding hockey market like Edmonton and his knowledge of some current Sharks players could make him a viable option.
