Sanders Backs Biden for 2024 Despite Debate Performance Concerns

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has thrown his support behind President Biden for the 2024 election, despite acknowledging concerns over the president’s performance in the recent debate against former President Trump. While admitting that Biden had a “terrible” debate, Sanders stated that he recently spoke with the president and continues to endorse him for re-election.

Sanders, at 82 years old, is older than Biden, but he believes people should focus on policy rather than age, dismissing growing concerns from both parties about the president’s mental fitness. “Biden is old,” Sanders said, “He’s not as articulate as he once was. I wish he could jump up the steps on Air Force One. He can’t. What we have got to focus on is policy, whose policies have and will benefit the vast majority of the people in this country.”

The senator expressed his belief that the American people desire a president who is willing to confront corporate greed and address economic inequality. He envisions a president who expands Medicare, strengthens Social Security benefits, and implements a permanent child tax credit to significantly reduce childhood poverty. “The American people want an agenda for the next four years that speaks to the needs of the working class of this country,” Sanders emphasized. “He has got to say, ‘I am prepared to take on corporate greed, massive income and wealth inequality and stand with the working class in this country.’ He does that, he’s going to win and win big.”

Sanders pointed to the economic realities facing many Americans, highlighting that 60% live paycheck to paycheck and a significant portion of the elderly struggle on a meager annual income. He believes that Biden’s focus on economic issues will resonate with voters and lead to electoral success.

Despite his support for Biden, Sanders concluded the interview by confirming his own re-election bid for the Senate seat representing Vermont.
