Sandeshkhali Sting Video Controversy: Mamata Accuses BJP, TMC Seeks Investigation

The widely shared Sandeshkhali sting operation video has ignited a firestorm of controversy, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee leveling accusations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “dishonoring the mothers of Bengal” through an alleged conspiracy. She vehemently condemned the BJP’s alleged attempt to tarnish the state’s reputation and urged them to refrain from such heinous actions.

TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee echoed similar sentiments, calling upon the people of West Bengal to repudiate those seeking to damage the state’s standing. He implored the public to reject anyone attempting to discredit Bengal for mere political gain.

Meanwhile, nearly 24 hours have passed without any clear indication of whether an investigation will be launched into the Sandeshkhali “sting operation.” The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has remained silent on the matter. According to Anandabazar Patrika, citing officials from Basirhat Police, no complaints have been filed at the Sandeshkhali police station regarding the video.

The CBI has reportedly clarified that the investigation into the Sandeshkhali incident is proceeding as per the High Court’s directives. The agency emphasized that if any complaints pertaining to the sting video emerge, they will be presented before the court, and further actions will be taken based on the court’s guidance.

The TMC disseminated the viral video through its official social media channels, although LiveMint could not independently verify its authenticity. Questions have been raised as to why the ruling party, which has been accused of protecting alleged criminals like Shahjahan, has not yet filed a police complaint.

The alleged ‘sting’ video captured on a hidden camera purports to show that the gang rape allegations in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali were ‘staged.’ Gangadhar Kayal, a BJP leader from Sandeshkhali, alleges in the video that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in Bengal, orchestrated a “conspiracy” to pay women in the area to make false accusations against certain Trinamool leaders. However, Kayal now claims that his voice was doctored in the recording. Adhikari, in response, stated that Gangadhar had lodged a complaint with the CBI. Additionally, a name, Shubhankar Giri, has also surfaced in the alleged video.
