The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday night that wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson will replace Ishan Kishan in the India D squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. Kishan sustained a groin injury during the ongoing Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. The BCCI press release stated that the medical team is closely monitoring Kishan’s condition and working towards his swift recovery.
This news follows the earlier announcements of Suryakumar Yadav and Prasidh Krishna being ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy. Suryakumar, India’s T20 captain, sustained a hand injury while playing for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. He has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further assessment.
Prasidh Krishna, meanwhile, is recovering from surgery he underwent in February this year. He did not participate in the recently concluded KSCA Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament, despite being signed by the eventual champions, Mysuru Warriors.
India A will face India B in the tournament opener at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Here are the updated squads for the first round of the Duleep Trophy:
