Students and faculty at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina came together for sit-ins on Friday in a display of support for the people of Gaza and university protesters worldwide. The events provided a safe space for members of the community, including Palestinian students, staff, and alumni, to engage in meaningful conversations. According to May Elsayed, president of the Students for Justice and Peace at the University of Saskatchewan, the gatherings aimed to foster connections and amplify the voices of those directly affected by the conflict. The university acknowledged the demonstrations and stated its commitment to supporting students, staff, and faculty during these challenging times. Organizers ensured the safety and peacefulness of the protests, while students highlighted their role in bringing awareness to the issue and advocating for peace. The sit-ins included Palestinian speakers, shared meals, art and reading groups, and prayer, creating a space for community engagement and solidarity. Batoul Abouelela, a student at the University of Regina, expressed the desire to demonstrate support and connect with other similar gatherings across the globe. The events at both universities reflected the involvement of students in addressing global issues and promoting dialogue and peace.
