Meanwhile, KFC, never one to be outdone, countered with their own saucy nuggets in three flavors: honey BBQ, honey sriracha, and Korean BBQ. While they initially offered five flavors back in March, they decided to up the ante for summer with the addition of honey BBQ. KFC’s saucy nuggets, starting at $7.49 for an 8-piece, also made their debut on June 10th, kicking off a delicious battle of the brands.

Now, let’s dive into the taste test! With KFC offering only three flavors compared to Wendy’s seven, I’ve ranked each nugget by flavor first, followed by an overall comparison. The ranking scale ranges from 1 to 10, with 10 being “meh” and 1 being the pinnacle of saucy girl summer. My judging criteria? Flavor, sauciness, crunch, and overall enjoyment. Wendy’s Spicy Ghost Pepper Nuggets:

I’ll be honest, I was terrified! My spice tolerance is limited, and the ghost pepper sauce sounded like a challenge I wasn’t prepared for. But, I persevered, and the ghost pepper flavor was definitely an experience. While not as fiery as I anticipated, it had a smokey sweetness with intense heat that built up with each chew. However, the complexity of flavors overwhelmed my palate, and it ultimately landed in last place. Overall Score: 1.5/5

Wendy’s Spicy Garlic Parm Nuggets:

This combo seemed like a slam dunk, but unfortunately, it missed the mark for me. The nuggets were seasoned and sauced beautifully, but the flavor profile felt off. The sauce was incredibly buttery, bordering on oily, and the garlic and parmesan flavors were overshadowed. The spice and sauce also seemed to clash, leaving me with a less-than-ideal combination. Wendy’s put up a good fight, but KFC ultimately stole the show with their flavorful and crispy nuggets and perfectly balanced sauces. While Wendy’s offers more sauce options, KFC’s nuggets had more depth of flavor and a superior overall experience.

Where Wendy’s Shines:

Wendy’s did have some advantages. They offer seven sauce options compared to KFC’s three, making them a more appealing choice for those seeking variety. They also offer smaller nugget counts, great for trying multiple flavors. And finally, Wendy’s nuggets are more affordable, making them a better option for budget-conscious consumers.

Overall, this was a close battle, but in the end, KFC’s saucy nuggets reigned supreme.
