Saudi Arabia and Maldives Partner to Advance Aviation Safety in the Red Sea

Saudi Arabia and the Maldives have taken a significant step towards enhancing aviation safety and security, with a focus on water aerodromes and seaplanes. The move comes after a high-level visit by His Excellency Captain Mohamed Ameed, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Maldives, to the Red Sea region of Saudi Arabia. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority. This agreement marks a crucial step in strengthening cooperation between the two nations, particularly in developing safety and security regulations for water aerodromes and seaplanes. The goal is to ensure that these regulations are aligned with international best practices.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, and His Excellency Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, President of GACA. The signing of the MoU took place within the framework of the Red Sea project, a major initiative spearheaded by Red Sea Global. This ambitious project aims to establish world-class, sustainable tourism destinations in the region. The Red Sea International Airport, a state-of-the-art facility at the heart of this project, is rapidly becoming a vital hub for luxury tourism.

This initiative not only reinforces Saudi Arabia’s global leadership in innovation and sustainable development but also demonstrates its commitment to creating environmentally responsible tourism infrastructures. The visit concluded with both nations reaffirming their dedication to reducing the environmental impact of aviation. This shared goal will be achieved through innovative regulatory frameworks and continued international cooperation, marking a new chapter in Saudi-Maldives relations. This agreement signifies a shared vision for promoting safer and more sustainable aviation practices, ultimately contributing to the growth of eco-conscious tourism in the Red Sea region.
