Saudi Arabia Faces Funding Constraints, Invites Investors to Visit Megaproject

Saudi Arabia, facing funding difficulties for its $500 billion Neom megaproject, has invited potential investors to view the futuristic city from the inside for the first time since its construction began in 2017.

Neom, a project envisioning a city built in a straight line and powered by renewable energy, has seen its ambitions scaled back amid financial constraints. The Line, once planned to stretch 170 kilometers and house 1.5 million people, has been reduced to a length of 2.4 kilometers with a capacity for less than 30,000 residents.

In an effort to secure funding, Neom officials have embarked on a global roadshow, visiting China, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, New York City, Boston, Washington, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Paris, Berlin, and London. The project also plans to raise up to $1.3 billion through its first-ever bond issuance.

Despite these efforts, funding remains a challenge for the ambitious Neom project.
