Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, 88, was admitted to King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Jeddah on Wednesday for what state media described as routine examinations.
The Saudi Press Agency did not elaborate on the reasons for the king’s hospitalization, but said he would remain in the hospital for a period of time.
King Salman ascended to the throne in 2015 and has since appointed his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the kingdom’s heir apparent.
The crown prince is widely believed to be running the day-to-day affairs of the kingdom.
King Salman was discharged from the hospital on Thursday, according to state media. No further details about his health or the purpose of his examination were released.
