Indian squash stalwart Saurav Ghosal, who recently declared his retirement from the professional circuit, maintains his unwavering dedication to representing India on the international stage. Ghosal, a multi-time Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medalist, intends to channel his efforts into establishing processes and systems that will elevate the value of coaching and expertise accessible to the next generation of Indian squash players. Having played at the pinnacle for 21 years, the Kolkata-based Ghosal acknowledges the need to adjust his training regimen to maintain peak performance when representing India. He remains confident in his ability to deliver results for his country. Ghosal is also eager to play a crucial role in shaping the future generation of Indian squash stars. While not committing to daily coaching, he aims to mentor high-performance players and contribute to grassroots programs that will provide young players with the necessary guidance and opportunities to excel. Ghosal’s vision encompasses reaching out to schools, particularly in smaller cities, to nurture young talent. This decision to retire from the professional circuit grants him the flexibility to pursue these endeavors more effectively. Throughout his illustrious career, Ghosal has captured 10 PSA titles, reached 18 finals, and boasts a win-loss record of 281 out of 511 matches on the professional circuit. While an Olympic medal may remain an unfulfilled dream, Ghosal expresses gratitude for the inclusion of squash in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He holds the record for 13 National titles and is the only Indian men’s player to break into the world’s Top 10 ranking, achieving a career-high in April 2019.
