Sawan Shivratri Observed on August 2nd: Devotees to Fast and Pray to Lord Shiva

Sawan Shivratri, a significant Hindu festival, will be observed on August 2nd this year. On this day, devotees across India will observe a fast and offer prayers to Lord Shiva. The festival falls on the fourteenth day of the waning moon phase or Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha, according to the Hindu calendar.

The Kanwar Yatra, a pilgrimage during which devotees collect holy water from the Ganges River to offer to Lord Shiva, will also come to an end on August 2nd. Kanwariyas, the pilgrims participating in the Yatra, will perform ‘jalabhishek’ by offering the holy water to Lord Shiva.

Sawan Shivratri is celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm in North Indian states like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Temples across these regions will hold special pujas and Shiva darshan ceremonies throughout the month of Sawan.
