Scala Data Centers, the leading sustainable data center platform in the Hyperscale market, and Serena, a global leader in clean energy investments, have announced a game-changing partnership. This collaboration marks the largest renewable energy supply agreement in Latin America, signifying a significant step towards a more sustainable digital future.
The project will bolster Scala’s already 100% renewable energy portfolio, supplying wind power to meet the demands of Hyperscale data centers. This includes meeting the energy needs of complex AI workloads, highlighting the partnership’s crucial role in supporting the growth of advanced technologies.
The energy supply partnership is set to commence in January 2025, with the potential for an earlier start. The renewable energy will be sourced from the Assuruá 4 and Ventos da Bahia 3 wind farms, both located in Bahia, Brazil. These wind farms boast a combined installed capacity of 393 MW. Scala’s strategic investment in these assets will triple the amount of renewable energy available to its clients for over a decade.
This agreement underscores Serena’s extensive expertise in developing clean and renewable energy solutions for its partners. Fabiana Pasquot Polido, Director of Structured Operations for the Americas at Serena, emphasizes, “The agreement with Scala Data Centers reinforces how Serena is positioned to provide energy and infrastructure for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, whether in Brazil or the United States. We are the ideal partner for technology companies to exponentially increase their supply of sustainable energy.”
For Scala, this partnership marks a critical step in its journey to enhance data center infrastructure within Latin America while minimizing environmental impact. Luciano Fialho, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Scala Data Centers, highlights their commitment to sustainability: “We are pioneers in the region as the first Latin American data center operator to consume 100% renewable energy. In a global context where energy availability is a challenge, particularly with the rising demand due to AI workloads, our partnership with Serena reinforces our unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, all while maintaining carbon neutrality in our operations.”
Fabio Yanaguita, Energy Director at Scala Data Centers, further emphasizes the benefits of the partnership: “This partnership with Serena enhances Scala’s ability to provide our clients with a clean, competitive, and long-term energy supply.”
The transaction is subject to the fulfillment of standard conditions for agreements of this nature.
