Despite a final-hole bogey, Scheffler’s 3-under 68 sealed his triumph with a three-shot margin over Sahith Theegala at Harbour Town.
Scheffler’s triumph marked his fourth victory in his last five starts and made him the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the week after claiming the Masters green jacket. He now holds both the Masters and RBC Heritage titles, extending his dominance not seen on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods’ peak years.
Theegala’s birdie on the 16th hole and par saves on the 17th and 18th holes earned him a second-place finish and an additional $666,667. However, he acknowledged Scheffler’s dominance throughout the tournament.
Patrick Cantlay and U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark tied for third place with 68s. The final round faced a 2 1/2-hour delay due to storms, but Scheffler’s command was unwavering, showcasing his exceptional shotmaking.
Scheffler’s victory earned him $3.6 million from the $20 million purse, bringing his season total to over $18 million before the month of May. Approximately 400 spectators eagerly awaited his approach on the 18th fairway, where his final bogey ended his streak of 68 consecutive holes at par or better, a testament to his remarkable consistency.
Scheffler’s remarkable run continues as he prepares for the arrival of his first child next week and sets his sights on the PGA Championship, the first of three upcoming majors.
