At the RBC Heritage on Monday morning, Masters champion Scottie Scheffler’s victory appeared inevitable. The dominant golfer had a 5-shot lead with three holes remaining in the rain-delayed tournament. Despite a meaningless bogey on the final hole, Scheffler secured a 3-under 68 and a 3-shot victory over at Harbour Town.
Scheffler’s victory marks his fourth in the past five starts, extending a remarkable run not seen on the PGA Tour since the peak years of Tiger Woods. He joins Bernhard Langer as the only player to win the week after capturing the Masters green jacket since 1985.
Scheffler’s consistency and shot-making prowess were evident throughout the tournament. His victory earned him $3.6 million from the $20 million purse, bringing his season total to over $18 million before May. Despite a streak of 68 consecutive holes at par or better ending with a bogey on the 18th hole, Scheffler’s dominance remains undeniable.
Next up for Scheffler is a different kind of prize: His wife is pregnant with their first child, due next week. The PGA Championship, scheduled for May 16-19, will be the first of the remaining three majors on Scheffler’s calendar.
