A horrifying school shooting has taken place at William Wiley Elementary in West Richland, Washington, resulting in the tragic death of a woman. The incident occurred around 3 pm local time as students were leaving for the day, and the suspect is still at large.
Law enforcement officials have imposed a critical lockdown at the school, with students and staff sheltering in the building. Police are actively searching for the suspect, combing the area around the school and a nearby house on South Highlands Boulevard. Authorities believe they may know the identity of the perpetrator and have surrounded his residence.
All extracurricular activities and sports events in every Richland school have been canceled, and events in neighboring schools have been moved indoors. Parents are waiting anxiously outside a cordoned-off area near the school, awaiting updates on their children’s safety.
At around 4:45 pm local time, children were released to their parents after identification checks. Those present at the scene included anxious parents, police escorting children, and multiple school buses and SWAT vehicles.
