A horrifying incident of a schoolgirl being brutally beaten by a group of other girls in Mumbai has sent shockwaves through the city. A video of the attack, which has gone viral on social media, shows the girls mercilessly punching, kicking, and dragging the victim by her hair. The incident reportedly occurred two weeks ago on Yari Road in Versova.
The video, full of expletives and disturbing imagery, captures the horrifying scene as the attackers, who are all minors, relentlessly assault the victim. Despite the brutality of the attack, bystanders reportedly did little to intervene, with only a few individuals on scooters briefly stopping to observe.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a minor argument between the girls, who all reside in the same locality. The police’s Nirbhaya squad, which specializes in preventing crime against women and children, launched an investigation into the incident.
Following the investigation, officials from the Versova Police Station and the Sneha Foundation, along with the Child Welfare Committee, conducted counselling sessions for all the girls involved and their parents. The principals of the schools the girls attend have also been informed about the incident.
The police are actively investigating the source of the viral video and have intensified patrols in the area to deter similar incidents. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, highlighting the urgent need to address issues of bullying and violence amongst young people.
