The meteorological department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Pune city and Ghat areas. In response, Anganwadis, schools, and colleges of all managements will remain closed in the following areas: Bhor, Velha, Maval, Mulshi, Khadakwasla, Haveli, Khed, Ambegaon, Junnar Ghat, Pune city, and Pimpri Chinchwad. Despite the closure, all principals, teachers, and non-teaching staff are required to attend the school during office hours to assist in disaster management, as per the directives of the local administration. This information was communicated in an official release issued by Pune district collector and Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, Suhas Diwase, on Thursday. Earlier in the day, the state higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil had written to Diwase requesting a holiday for schools on Friday in anticipation of the heavy rainfall. His letter highlighted the difficulties faced by school administrations, parents, and students due to the late announcement of school closure on Thursday morning. The collector’s office released the official announcement on Thursday morning, leading to confusion and inconvenience.
