Schools Closed in Puri District Due to Heavy Rains

The Puri district administration in Odisha has taken the decision to close all schools within its jurisdiction due to heavy rainfall affecting the region. This decision, announced on Thursday, prioritizes the safety of students, teachers, and non-teaching staff members.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Puri and Paradip experienced 3 cm of rainfall, while Bhubaneswar received 2 cm on Wednesday and Thursday. The intense rains have resulted in water logging in several areas, making it challenging for students to travel safely to and from school.

The IMD forecast indicates that heavy rain is expected to continue in six districts including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is also predicted for parts of Kendrapada, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Nayagarh.

The impact of the rainfall has extended beyond transportation issues. The Konark Sun Temple near Puri has also been affected by flooding, prompting the local administration to install pumps to drain the water.

The Puri administration has not yet announced a date for the reopening of schools. Students, parents, and guardians are advised to stay in touch with school authorities for updates on the reopening. It is expected that schools will resume once weather conditions improve and it is deemed safe for students and staff to return.
