Schools Closed in Rajasthan and Kerala Due to Heavy Rains

Schools in several cities across Rajasthan have been ordered to close today, August 12, 2024, as a precautionary measure due to relentless torrential rains. The affected cities include Jaipur, Jaipur Rural, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, Gangapur, and Bharatpur. These regions have been significantly impacted by continuous downpours since Saturday, resulting in widespread waterlogging and disruption of daily life. The decision to close schools was made to prioritize the safety of students and staff, as the heavy rains have created hazardous conditions on the roads and in local communities.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert predicting heavy to very heavy rain in several districts of Rajasthan over the next 24 hours. The state has already reported several rain-related casualties, including drowning incidents and fatalities caused by collapsing structures.

Similarly, in Kerala, schools in several districts are likely to be closed in response to severe weather warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). An orange alert has been issued for the districts of Palakkad and Malappuram, while a yellow alert has been announced for Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. These districts are expected to experience very heavy rainfall, with forecasts indicating continued rain and thunderstorms across the state until August 16.

Local authorities in Kerala are closely monitoring the situation, and school closures are anticipated in the affected districts to prevent any potential risks to students. The IMD has also advised residents in landslide-prone areas to relocate to safer locations and urged fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to high winds and rough conditions.

Both Rajasthan and Kerala are bracing for more adverse weather, with disaster management teams on high alert to handle any emergencies that may arise. The public is being urged to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines to mitigate risks during this period of intense rainfall.
