The Seattle Kraken, who joined the NHL in 2021 as the league’s 32nd franchise, have opted to make a change in their broadcast partnerships. The team has parted ways with Root Sports Northwest, which had been the exclusive local television broadcaster for the Kraken’s first three seasons.
In a move that is expected to provide fans with more options and flexibility, the Kraken have signed a multi-year partnership with streaming service Prime Video. This agreement will see Prime Video broadcast a select number of Kraken games each season.
Additionally, the Kraken have reached an agreement with local television station KGW to broadcast all of the team’s non-nationally televised games, which typically number more than 70 per season. These games will be available over the air for free to viewers in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
The Kraken’s decision to leave Root Sports Northwest is reportedly part of an effort to increase the team’s visibility and reach a wider audience. The new agreements with Prime Video and KGW are expected to help the Kraken achieve these goals and further establish the team as a major force in the NHL.
