On Sunday morning (May 5), security personnel conducted a search operation following a terrorist attack on an Indian Air Force (IAF) convoy, according to officials who spoke to ANI. One person was killed in the attack in Poonch on May 4. According to the ANI report, officials stated that the goal of the search operation was to find the terrorists responsible for the attack. Security forces have set up checkpoints and are conducting thorough searches in the area.
Additional Indian Army reinforcements reached Jarra Wali Gali (JWG) in Poonch late Saturday night in response to the incident. The attack, which took place in the village of Sanai, resulted in injuries to personnel who were quickly transported to Udhampur’s Command Hospital. Regrettably, one of the injured personnel passed away from his wounds.
Following the attack, the local Rashtriya Rifles unit, backed by the Army and police, launched cordon and search operations in the area to capture the attackers. The IAF confirmed the incident on Twitter, stating that the targeted convoy had been secured. They also stated that the operation is still underway. “In the ensuing gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. During this confrontation, five IAF personnel sustained bullet wounds and were evacuated to the closest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior later passed away from his wounds. Local forces are continuing with further operations,” they added.
According to authorities, the vehicles used in the attack have been secured in the vicinity of the airbase near Shahsitar.
The attack on the IAF convoy on Saturday is the second attack on security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir district this year. Earlier this year, in January, an Army convoy came under heavy fire from suspected militants, prompting the launch of a search operation by the security forces.
“At approximately 1800 hours today, a suspected group of terrorists opened fire on a convoy of security vehicles from the jungle near Krishna Ghati, Poonch sector; there were no casualties among our forces. Joint search operations by the Indian Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) are ongoing,” said the Army’s White Night Corps in a post on X.
