A man from Selwyn Township, Ontario, is facing charges of impaired driving following a collision north of Peterborough on Tuesday evening, May 16th, 2023. According to the Peterborough County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), an employee of a Trent Lakes business contacted them around 11:00 p.m. to report a potential impaired driver leaving the establishment. Officers promptly searched the vicinity and located the vehicle in a ditch along Lakehurst Road. Witnesses spotted a man matching the description of the driver provided to the police walking away from the area. Upon noticing the approaching officers, the suspect returned to inform them that he was the driver. Subsequent examinations by the police confirmed that he was impaired. The 28-year-old individual was charged with two counts of impaired driving, one for alcohol and the other for having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood. Consequently, his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on June 11th.
