Sen. Marco Rubio Now Backs Military-Assisted Deportation Plan, Citing Surge in Illegal Immigration

In a significant shift from his previous position, Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) now supports former President Trump’s plan to use the military to deport illegal immigrants from the country. Rubio, who had previously criticized the plan, argues that the surge in illegal immigration in recent years, combined with concerns about potential security risks, necessitates more drastic action.

Rubio’s change in stance was evident during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where he was asked whether he supported Trump’s deportation plan. “Yes,” Rubio replied, acknowledging that the United States cannot “absorb 25, 30 million people who entered this country illegally.”

This marks a departure from Rubio’s previous position on the issue. In 2015, while running for president, Rubio criticized Trump’s plan to round up and deport the millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States. He argued that such a plan was not “workable” and that the country would not want to “do that anyway.”

However, Rubio now contends that the situation has changed since then, with the number of illegal immigrants entering the country increasing significantly in recent years. He also expressed concern that some of these individuals could be “terrorists.”

“We’re going to have to do something dramatic to remove people from this country that are here illegally, especially people we know nothing about,” Rubio said.

Rubio’s reversal on this issue reflects the growing concern among some Republicans about the increasing flow of illegal immigration. President Trump has vowed to implement a mass deportation plan if he wins the November election, promising to use the National Guard if needed.

While Rubio’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, his shift in stance highlights the evolving views on immigration policy within the Republican Party.
