Sergio Perez of Red Bull currently leads the pack of Formula 1 drivers who are at risk of accumulating 12 penalty points and facing a one-race suspension. With eight points already under his belt over the past 12 months, Perez is precariously close to the threshold. Williams’ Logan Sargeant is in the same boat, possessing an identical tally.
Lance Stroll of Aston Martin has recently emerged as another driver to watch, having picked up seven penalty points so far this season. His teammate Fernando Alonso also has six points, highlighting the challenges faced by the Aston Martin team.
Despite the looming threat of a race ban, no F1 driver has yet to accumulate enough penalty points within a 12-month period to trigger the suspension. However, the drama-filled Chinese Grand Prix, which saw 11 points dished out, has brought several drivers closer to that fate.
While Perez, Sargeant, and Stroll occupy the top three positions in terms of penalty points, it is worth noting that seven drivers have managed to maintain a clean slate after the first five races of the season. These drivers include representatives from Ferrari, McLaren, and Alpine.
Alex Albon of Williams stands out as the only other driver with 50% or more of the 12 penalty points required for a ban. In stark contrast to his teammate Sargeant, Albon has had a challenging start to the 2024 campaign.
