Sergio Ramos, the legendary Spanish defender, has informed Sevilla FC that his second spell with the club will come to an end after just one season. The La Liga outfit announced the news on Monday, expressing gratitude for Ramos’s commitment and leadership during his time at the club.
Having spent over 20 years at the pinnacle of football, Ramos has a glittering resume. He won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, along with four Champions League titles with Real Madrid. He then returned to Sevilla last summer to aid the club in a challenging season. Despite his efforts, Sevilla finished a disappointing 14th in La Liga, going through three managers in the process.
Ramos, at the age of 38, made 37 appearances for Sevilla. He initially left the club in 2005 to join Real Madrid for a 15-year period, before moving on to Paris Saint-Germain for two seasons. Although he has yet to disclose his next destination, his departure from Sevilla marks the end of a chapter for the iconic defender.
The seven-time Europa League champions announced that Ramos will bid farewell to Sevilla’s supporters on Tuesday. His dream return to the club, where he honed his skills in their youth system, has unfortunately come to an end. His exit follows that of Jesus Navas, another Sevilla legend, who left the club two weeks ago after 17 seasons.
With Ramos’s future still uncertain, the footballing world awaits his next move.
