Seriencamp Returns to Cologne with Industry Leaders and AI Focus

Seriencamp, the renowned European TV industry event, is set to return to Cologne, Germany, in June for its tenth edition. The event has consistently attracted delegates from across Europe and has established itself as a cornerstone in the international TV calendar.

A preview of the 2024 lineup reveals informative sessions featuring prominent producers, distributors, broadcasters, and platforms. Specific segments will delve into artificial intelligence and the impact of soundtracks in TV drama.

Director Oliver Hirschbiegel, Supervising Art Director Cornelia Ott, and producers Daniel Hetzer and Jakob Neuhäusser will grace the event to discuss their contributions to Apple TV+’s sci-fi series, “Constellation.” Additionally, a session titled “How Soundtracks Shape the Way We See” will explore the crucial role of music in TV drama, with insights from music supervisor Catherine Grieves, renowned for her work on projects such as “Killing Eve” and “Extraordinary.”

Reflecting the industry’s increasing focus on artificial intelligence, Seriencamp will dedicate a segment to examining its practical applications through real-world case studies. Ethical and legal considerations surrounding this emerging technology will also be addressed.

A popular returning feature at Seriencamp is the showcase of German drama series in progress. The 2024 lineup boasts promising titles such as Real Film’s “Hameln” for ZDFneo, Constantin’s adaptation of the bestseller “Achtsam Morden” for Netflix, and Studio Zentral’s superhero series “Angmessen Angry” for RTL+.

Broadcasters and streaming services will provide glimpses of their upcoming projects in dedicated “What’s Next” presentations. Furthermore, a “Meet the Distributors” session will feature representatives from ZDF Studios, Newen Studios, StudioCanal, ORF Enterprises, Oble, Mediawan, and Bavaria Media, sharing their perspectives on partnerships and project collaborations.

Seriencamp enjoys the support of German funding body Film und Medienstiftung NRW and regional authority Staatskanzlei NRW, while ZDF Studios serves as a main partner. Markus Schäfer, President and CEO of ZDF Studios, recognizes the event’s significance in a challenging TV landscape and highlights its value for intelligence sharing and networking. “Cooperation, co-production, and co-financing between broadcasters, streamers, production companies, and distributors are more important today than ever before,” Schäfer said. “This is the only way to create new and targeted opportunities to continue to develop and finance outstanding programs and make them available to international audiences.”

Seriencamp founder and Artistic Director Gerhard Maier emphasizes the event’s focus on addressing pivotal industry issues. “From the challenges and opportunities of technological disruption through artificial intelligence, to evolving global media landscapes that foster new collaborations and business models, and the adaptive changes in national film policies and funding—each element is designed to spark dialogue and inspire.”
