The fireplace draws the eye up to barn-style beams, and the overmantle is finished with a moody gray limewash treatment, adding a touch of sophistication. The kitchen is designed to feel more like a wall of built-ins than a traditional kitchen, with black cabinetry that winks to the family’s Pinterest-famous kitchen in their Manhattan home. The space is filled with beautiful furniture, but it doesn’t feel overwrought. It’s a place where a young family can kick back and relax, where days are centered around mealtimes. There are plenty of places to dine, from a smaller breakfast area with antique Gustavian chairs and a Carlo Scarpa light fixture, to a larger dining area with Scarpa dining chairs and views of the property’s oak grove.
Upstairs, arched doorways lead to bedrooms where subtle nautical touches abound. A porthole-esque window in the boys’ room offers a prime view of their grandparents’ home, and their bathroom mirror is actually an upcycled porthole with a looking glass at the center. Bunk beds in vibrant red add a jolt of color to the spaces, which are otherwise an ombre of earth and wood tones via antique furnishings and decor.
Throughout the home, Ashe Leandro has infused the space with a mix of old and new, using antique furniture and art to add character and warmth. A mounted 17th-century silk tapestry in the primary bedroom adds an old-world touch, while a hulking burled wood secretary desk with ornate curvature has been repurposed as a bar containing silver-plated Gucci Stirrup Cups with Elk Head.
