The emotional reunion between the former KKR skipper and the current co-owner delighted the spectators, who captured the moment on their mobile phones.
Ganguly, who had led KKR in the inaugural edition of the IPL, left the side in 2010. His reunion with Shah Rukh Khan after many years evoked nostalgia and sparked a social media storm, with fans expressing their joy at witnessing the icons together. The ‘Prince of Kolkata,’ Shah Rukh Khan, also received a warm reception from the Eden Gardens crowd whenever he appeared on the big screen.
Earlier in the day, KKR outplayed DC in a dominating performance. Despite DC’s initial attempts to replicate their 257-run target against MI, they were unable to match their own standards. Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk’s promising starts were cut short, giving KKR a firm grip on the match.
Kuldeep Yadav provided some stability for DC with his 35 runs off 26 balls, helping the team cross 150 runs. However, it was Phil Salt’s thunderous start that sealed the victory for KKR. The opener smashed 23 runs off the first over and went on to score a spectacular 68 runs off 33 deliveries, including 7 fours and 5 sixes.
KKR maintained control throughout the match, with skipper Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer easing past the total with 21 balls to spare. This victory propelled the Knight Riders to the second spot in the points table with 12 points, while DC remained at no.6 with five wins from 11 matches.
