The first trailer for the live-action prequel ‘Mufasa’ has generated considerable buzz among fans of the Disney classic ‘The Lion King’. The clip provides a glimpse into the story of the ‘orphan’ and ‘outsider’ who ascended to the throne in this heartwarming tale.
In addition to the general excitement surrounding the film, Indian fans are particularly eager to know if Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan will reprise his role as the voice of Mufasa. Khan’s portrayal of the character in the 2019 live-action Hindi dubbed version of ‘The Lion King’ was highly praised and contributed to the film’s success at the domestic box office.
Fans have also expressed their desire for Khan’s son, AbRam Khan, to voice the young Mufasa, similar to the casting of Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter in the English version of the film.
Should Khan lend his voice to the Hindi dub of ‘Mufasa’, it would mark a significant casting coup and add to the anticipation for the film’s release in India. However, fans will have to wait until December to know for sure whether or not Khan will be involved in the project.
The release of ‘Mufasa’ in December 2024 will coincide with the releases of Akshay Kumar’s comedy ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ and Aamir Khan’s drama ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’. This has sparked speculation about a potential box office clash between the three major Bollywood stars. However, it remains to be seen whether Kumar and Khan will adjust their release dates to avoid competing directly against each other.
